The Lord of the Harvest

Do you have trouble understanding what the Bible has to say about the end times and how the Church fits into it all? I do. There’s talk about a possible rapture in September 2017 because of a planetary alignment in Virgo, as there was in September 2015. I don’t follow that – it just adds to our confusion and then people get put off when it doesn’t happen, as happened with Harold Camping.

It’s much better to get our information from the Bible.

But can we work out where we’re at now from things that were written 2,000 years ago?

The Word of God can be quite enigmatic. Sometimes it seems like code. And Jesus put events that happened thousands of years apart in one paragraph! How are we supposed to understand?

When I worked as a programmer, and I had poorly documented “spaghetti code” to decipher, I’d plunge into the code by setting up a watch on the variables – things that were running through the code, to see if the logic was correct.

So I did the same thing with the Word. I put myself in the story as a character, and met with the Lord who was already there in his assigned role as “Lord of the Harvest.” Then I set a watch on the scene, dialogue and events as they unfolded.

I’ve come away with a good story and a satisfying understanding of end times events.

And I believe I get to talk to God while I am in the story. I call it “going into the Kingdom.”

So here’s the first chapter of my quest. From this, I am already beginning to piece things together.  I will sum it all up in a further post.  Enjoy.

The Lord of the Harvest, part 1

Wheat field 1

Smiling, she met the Lord in a grain field near his birthplace at Bet Lehem, the ‘House of Bread.’

Plucking a head of grain, the Lord put it into her hand.
“You will find fifty grains in that head of wheat” he informed her.

His eyes had an intent look as she studied the wheat grain.

He said “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.” John 12:24
The wind rippled wheat bowed to him as if to thank him for his word.

They walked along in silence for a while.
“Where are we going?” she asked.
“We are going to my Father’s house in Jerusalem six miles to the south, to the temple that was built on 1Araunah’s threshing floor.  David paid fifty shekels of silver for it.”

“Why fifty?” she asked.

“Fifty denotes a full price and a full purchase” he answered. (2 Sam. 24:24)

“What does Araunah mean?” she asked.

“Ark” he replied.

They arrived in Jerusalem to joyous crowds, who had gathered at the temple for a spring festival.

“What are they celebrating?” she asked.

“The feast of Shavuot, also known as the Feast of Weeks, when the First Fruits are brought into the temple seven weeks after Passover. Today is the fiftieth day.”

Leviticus 23,15-16

As a pilgrim brought the First Fruits to the Temple she heard him declare the word the Lord had commanded; “I declare today to the Lord our God that I have come to the country which the Lord swore to our fathers to give us …” Deuteronomy 26:3-10

Observing the offering, she was sorely aware she was a stranger here, a Gentile without Jewish roots.

“Can you please tell me about the festivals, beginning with Passover?” she asked.

1You know the lamb’s blood was put on the lintel of the houses so the angel of death passed over my people in Egypt,” he reminded her. “My people celebrate for seven days in remembrance of this, without realising I am the Lamb of God. The Passover lamb is sacrificed at twilight. During this time, they eat Matzo, bread without leaven. The Greek word for unleavened bread is ‘azumos.’ The bread is striped and pierced, like my back.

Then there is a seven-week counting period after the three festivals of Passover, First-Fruits and Unleavened Bread.

Shavuot, the next festival means ‘weeks.’ It happens on the fiftieth day and marks the all-important wheat harvest.  The distinguishing feature of Shavuot is the offering of two leavened loaves of bread made of fine flour.”

Putting the emphasis on leavened, he used the Greek word ‘artos’ for bread. It meant a raised loaf of leavened bread – normal, natural regular bread.

“Doesn’t leaven mean sin?” she asked.

“No, in this case, it means to permeate. The clue was in the three measures of meal – the amount used in baking the shewbread, ‘the Bread of Presence‘ for the Temple. (Exodus 35:13)

The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened.” Matthew 13:33

“Ah, so it’s sure to rise!” she quipped.

“Yes, anyone who believes me will be saved and I will raise him up on the last day,” he replied.

He continued, “I AM the Bread of Life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.” John 6:48

There were two leavened loaves for the two distinct groups celebrating the fiftieth day; The Jews celebrating Shavuot – the Feast of Weeks, and the Church observing Pentecost.

LastSupper2 resized Taking the loaf for the Church, he broke it and offered her the bread.

“This is my body, given for you. Take, eat in remembrance of me” he said.

The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread.” 1 Corinthians 10:17.

Taking the bread, she knelt, thanking him for his body.

“Can you please tell me about Pentecost?” she asked.

“The Church began on the fiftieth day,” he began; “After my suffering, I presented himself to my disciples and gave many convincing proofs that I was alive. I appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. On one occasion, while I was eating with them, I gave them this command: “Do not leave but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 1:3-5.

“Fifty days after Passover, the Holy Spirit was poured out on 120 followers who waited in Jerusalem on the day of Shavuot when the first-fruits were being brought into to the Holy Temple. That day was called ‘Pentecost,’ meaning fifty. From this day, the spirit has been and is being poured out.”

“What does that look like?” she asked.

“Like the birth of a new person,” the Lord marveled. “I told Nicodemus, a teacher of the law that he had to be born again. Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ John 3:5-7

Watching the wind move through the wheat, the Lord said, “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:8

After the Holy Spirit was received by the 120 people, Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,
That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your young men shall see visions,
Your old men shall dream dreams.
And on My menservants and on My maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days;
And they shall prophesy. Acts 2:12-17

Leading her back to the wheat fields, the Lord said, “The spring harvest of first fruit has begun.” (1 Corinthians 15:20-23)

Reminding her of the first group of seventy, who had worked two by two, he said, “The harvest truly is great, but the are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” Luke 10:2

“How long will the harvest go for?” she asked.

“It will continue until the end.”

Taking her to the fields of Sychar, he said “Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!” John 4:35.

Sychar wasn’t a Jewish village.

“Why did you go to Sychar, when you said you were sent for the lost sheep of Israel?” she asked, wondering at the Lord’s strange detour into Samaria.

Reminding her of what he told the woman of Sychar, he said Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.” John 4:30-23

“Ah” she said, getting it. He was speaking of two harvests. First Fruits represented Himself and the Church he had begun on the fiftieth day. It was already underway. The Autumn harvest, representing the Jews, would begin at its conclusion when the Times of the Gentiles were fulfilled.

“What does Sychar mean?” she asked the Lord of the Harvest.

“End” he replied.

The trap in the ground, and the trumpet in the sky

richter-scale“Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?” The King asked by way of reply to my question about the shaking New Zealand has been experiencing.

I keep an eye on signs.  I discern things.  That’s my gift.  Not that I always get it right.  I check what I see with the Bible. And I ask God questions.

“Are the earthquakes we’ve been experiencing since 2011 about sin?” I asked doubtfully.

The day before the Kaikoura earthquake Brian Tamaki, the self-appointed bishop of Destiny Church said, “the earth convulses under the weight of certain human sin … Massive earthquakes have already hit in Christchurch and you could have just about predicted that one.”  The next day he was a  prophet in big trouble with the gay community who didn’t like what he said.

Well, he detected something, but he was off target.  We’ve always had sin.  It’s a worldwide problem.  All that kind of talk does is make God look like a smiter who likes to thump people!  Not helpful.

God walks a fine line between staying his hand and meting out justice.  I wish people would stop seeing Him as ‘the almighty smiter.’ He is a just God.  When God’s people refuse to heed His Word, He brings a just and curative discipline upon them.  In this instance, I see His mercy and His appeal for us to see the signs and hear what He has to say.

“No.  It’s the land.  I am warning about the land …” the Lord said, tracing the number two into our shaken country.  Two huge earthquakes happened simultaneously, involving two different plates. Two earthquakes, at two minutes after midnight, that lasted two minutes, with two people dead, affecting two islands (the North and South Island), and to top if off the land underwent a two metre shift south of Marlborough.

The scientists said they’d never seen anything like it.

Also, rare events surrounded that quake.  There was a super moon (not that we saw it) and eerie strange flashing lights across the horizon in Wellington while the earth shook.  It made me think of lights flashing at a railway crossing.  And After the earthquake, a huge storm struck the Wellington area.  It was seriously weird.

I’d taken God’s warning to be about the land in New Zealand.

“It’s APEC, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation trade agreement. That’s what it is!!” I thought, thinking of the APEC meeting the globalists were all going to later that week.  If you read my previous blog post from November, you will see why I was focusing on that. Over the years APEC economic development has worsened poverty and inequality while strengthening corporate power.

“But what’s with the pattern of ‘two’s’ in this latest earthquake?” I asked.

Lion roaring, illustration for book about Aslan“Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?” God asked before showing me a lion roaring unseen from a thicket, an eagle swooping, a trap springing from the ground, and a trumpet sounding in a city.

“Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?”
Does a lion roar in the thicket when it has no prey?
Does it growl in its den when it has caught nothing?
Does a bird swoop down to a trap on the ground when no bait is there?
Does a trap spring up from the ground if it has not caught anything?
When a trumpet sounds in a city, do not the people tremble?
When disaster comes to a city, has not the LORD caused it?
Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.”
Amos 3:3-7

I can see what TWO meant now.  US Secretary of State John Kerry and NZ prime minister John Key were meeting about Israel before Donald Trump took power. “The land” God referred to wasn’t just our land, it was the covenant land of Israel … and the TWO State Solution.  NZ put forward a motion in the UN Security Council on the 23rd of December 2016. It criticized Israel’s settlement in East Jerusalem, commonly referred to as the West Bank.  That meeting led to the Paris peace conference three weeks later on the 15th January 2017.

If I’d been serving up coffee at that meeting, I would have been asking “would you like a cup of trembling with that?”

I am going to show you the bird swooping to the ground, explain the trap, and you will hear a trumpet sounding in a city.

The trap

israelThe peace talks are a trap.  Fatah (Palestinian West Bank) and Hamas (Gaza) are likely to use whatever land they can gain as a base from which they and their friends plan to topple the Jewish state and evict all Jews from the land.  If I am wrong, why did Hamas launch missiles from Gaza the minute Israel surrendered that land for peace?

This Two State Solution was hammered out in Paris without agreement from Israel. It was shameful.

“Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?”

For the last two years, New Zealand has been complicit in this. It started in 2014 when NZ bid for a seat on the UN Security Council.

weta-eagle-landed

Does a bird swoop down to a trap on the ground when no bait is there? Amos 3:5

The bird swoop

During an earthquake in the same year, a giant eagle commemorating the Hobbit movie swung wildly from side to side in Wellington Airport’s international terminal before crashing to the ground. The eagle ‘crash’ landed on Wellington anniversary day.  The quake was centered 138 km away in Eketahuna, a small town occasionally used in conversation to represent “the real New Zealand.”

Fortunately, the one-tonne eagle didn’t land on anyone.  If the bird swooping down was a warning from Amos, where was the bait?

The bait

In 2015 NZ attempted to restart Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations by using our position on the UN Security Council, causing Israel to send a blunt message to us: Don’t try to renew peace talks.

The trumpet

When a trumpet sounds in a city, do not the people tremble?

On September 30th, 2016 more than 70 world leaders gathered in Israel for the funeral of Shimon Peres. The following day witnesses heard strange shofar (ram’s horn trumpet) sounds coming from the sky in Jerusalem and observed the appearance of a perfect circle of clouds. See the videos below.

The next day, October 2nd, Rosh Hashanah, called the  Feast of Trumpets began.  In contrast, here’s a video of the Shofar being blown at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem during the Feast of Trumpets on October 3rd, 2016.  As you can hear, the sky shofar is a lot louder.

Disaster

A month later, on the 9th of November 2016, US Secretary of State John Kerry quietly slipped into New Zealand. We were surprised at the timing because it was election day in the US.

Then he flew from Christchurch to Antarctica.  Kerry arrived back in NZ three days later for a two-day stopover in order to meet Prime Minister John Key and Foreign Minister Murray McCully.  They met on the 13th November to discuss “particularly matters currently before the United Nations Security Council, including the Syria crisis.”  What got decided in that meeting?

That scheming had barely ended when at two minutes after midnight on the 14th November 2016 NZ was struck by the massive 7.8 earthquakes. This time there was damage in Wellington, and Kaikoura was devastated.

When disaster comes to a city, has not the LORD caused it?  Amos 3:6

newzealand-quake

Three years after our one-tonne eagle swooped to the ground, and two months after the latest earthquake, more than 70 nations met in Paris regarding dividing the land on the 15th January 2017.

Hours before the council met to discuss the resolution, Israeli media reported that an anonymous Israeli official had accused Obama and US Secretary of State John Kerry of scheming behind Israel’s back to push a resolution through condemning Israel’s settlement in East Jerusalem, commonly referred to as the West Bank.

Now Israel fears a fresh UN initiative after the Paris conference.  I am not surprised.

The rock

There is a proverb that says If you set a trap for others, you will get caught in it yourself. If you roll a boulder down on others, it will crush you instead.” Proverbs 26:27

boulder

The boulder reminds me of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of the final empire in Daniel 2 when a rock not cut by human hands struck the final empire on its feet, breaking it all to pieces and blowing it away like chaff before the wind.

“In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever. This is the meaning of the vision of the rock cut out of a mountain, but not by human hands—a rock that broke the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver and the gold to pieces.  Daniel 2:45

God also said I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.” Zechariah 12:2

Here’s to the Kingdom to come, the Kingdom that will never be destroyed, the Kingdom of God.  May His Kingdom come, may His will be done.

There is a battle going on right now in the heavenly realms, and the signs are manifesting here on earth.

Jesus said, “upon this rock, I will build my church, and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it.”  Matthew 16:16.

As Christians and members of the church built and headed up by Jesus Christ, will we join the struggle and stand with Israel?  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Ephesians 6:12.

We need to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, as commanded in Psalm 122.

psalm-122

2numbertwoincircleFurther to the word I’d been given from Amos 3“Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?” the Lord gave me a second word, from Psalm 2.

It’s God scoffing at the nations who conspire against Him.  They’ve earned His derision.

Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together
against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
“Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles …”
Psalm 2:1-3.

I recommend reading the rest of it in Psalm 2.

The King he will install on Zion, his holy mountain is His Son.

The early church wanted to know the times and dates for when Jesus would return.  This term “peace and security” was given as a sign before the Lord’s sudden return;  “Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. The return of the King, part 2

Lion of Judah 1Jesus has a dual aspect to his character.  He’s the Lion of Judah and the Lamb Of God.  So far, the world has only met the Lamb.  Are we ready for the Lion?

The Lion speaks of triumph and the Lamb speaks of sacrifice.

Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders.”
Revelation 5:5-6

His capital city is going to be Jerusalem.  Jerusalem is mentioned 669 times in the Bible.  It is not mentioned in the Koran at all.

Jerusalem was the capital of Judah, whose emblem is a lion.  Jacob’s prophecy over his son Judah pointed to Jesus, the ruler over Judah and the nations.

You are a lion’s cub, Judah; you return from the prey, my son. Like a lion he crouches and lies down, like a lioness–who dares to rouse him?
The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his.  Genesis 49:9-10

The Gate

There is a gate in the old walls of Jerusalem that is known as the Lion Gate, and the Sheep Gate.  It is one of seven gates located in the Old City Walls of Jerusalem.

Five hundred years ago a Moslem ruler named Selim 1 captured Jerusalem and all of Israel.  He had plans to level the city of Jerusalem but changed his mind after dreaming of lions coming to devour him.  To be spared he promised to protect Jerusalem by building a wall around the city.

Lions gate

Lions gate / Sheep Gate, Jerusalem

Nehemiah chapter 3 which describes how the wall around Jerusalem rebuilt in 445B.C by the Jews who returned from Babylon begins and ends with the sheep gate. It was called the sheep gate because this was the gate which the sheep and lambs used in the sacrifice were bought through.

This gate points to the first coming of Jesus Christ 2000 years ago to be the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world  (John 1:29).

He is the gate by which everyone must enter to be saved (John 10:7-9).

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God, Isaiah 61:1-2

Bozrah and the day of vengeance

Jesus read from the scroll of Isaiah saying “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing”, but stopped at proclaiming the year of the Lord’s favour.  (Luke 4:16-20) The day of vengeance has not yet arrived.

Who is this coming from Edom,
from Bozrah, with his garments stained crimson?
Who is this, robed in splendor,
striding forward in the greatness of his strength?

“It is I, proclaiming victory,
    mighty to save.”  Isaiah 63:1

Lion roaring, illustration for book about AslanBozrah means “sheepfold”, and speaks of an end time deliverance of Israel.

“I will surely gather all of you, Jacob;
I will surely bring together the remnant of Israel.
I will bring them together like sheep in a pen,
    like a flock in its pasture;
the place will throng with people.
The One who breaks open the way will go up before them;
they will break through the gate and go out.
Their King will pass through before them,
the Lord at their head.”  Micah 2:12-13

I have written of the sheepfolds here: The Sheepfolds

Zechariah 14 tells of the day of battle – when Jerusalem will be taken, divided, the houses ransacked, and the women raped.   On that day the Lord will go out and fight against those nations.  On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south.

So in the end Jesus will be the one dividing Jerusalem – not the nations.  The victorious King will govern the world from Jerusalem.
