I have been asked by friends where I thought Christ’s body was? I explained I follow and worship a risen King , who said of himself, “I AM the resurrection and the life, whoever believes in me will live, even if he dies.” John 11:25
My friends are smart people, and they deserve an answer. The Bible tells me, “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter 3:15.
So where’s the body? I love a good “who-dunnit”, and the answer is shrouded in mystery.
There is no body here on Earth. Where is it? Is there proof Christ was resurrected? Let’s have another look at the Turin Shroud – the burial shroud with the imprint of His risen body.
A team of researchers from the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA), Italy, has found that the Shroud of Turin is not a fake and the body image was formed by a sort of electromagnetic source of energy. Scientists Suggest Turin Shroud Authentic
So how did the image of a crucified man’s body appear on the shroud?
The features have been burned onto the top fibres of the cloth, without destroying it, in something like a scorch. “The shroud image is made from tiny fibers that are 1/10th size of human hair and picture elements are randomly distributed like dots in newspaper photograph. To do this you would need incredibly accurate atomic laser. This technology does not exist.”
The image could have only been formed by some sort of burst of radiation, but the fact is, nothing like it has ever been found or reproduced. The radiation that made the image acted perfectly parallel to gravity. “It is suggested that the image was formed when high energy particles struck the fibres and released radiation within the fibres at a speed greater than the speed of light.” (Kevin E Moran)
Kevin Moon, Optical Engineer said “I believe the particle that made the image has not been discovered.”http://www.shroud.com/pdfs/moran.pdf
In 1976 Pete Schumacher, John Jackson and Eric Jumper analysed a photograph of the shroud image using a VP8 Image Analyzer, which was developed for NASA to create 3D images of the moon. They found that, unlike any photograph they had analyzed, the shroud image has the property of decoding into a 3-dimensional image.
Despite this, the Turin shroud was tested using the carbon 14 dating method, and declared to be a medieval forgery. 150,000 man hours of research and the work of scientists were brushed off from the results of one carbon 14 dating test.
The shroud has been through exhaustive scientific testing, and it has been established since 1978 that there is no paint, or paint pigmentation of any kind, associated with the image.
Joseph Kohlbeck from the Hercules Aerospace Company in Utah and Richard Levi-Setti of the Enrico Fermi Institute examined some dirt particles from the Shroud surface. The dirt particles match with samples of limestone from ancient Jerusalem tombs.
Did you know the shroud is not the only artifact that was preserved? In the gospel of John we have two strips of cloth – there was the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head.
“So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen.” John 20:3-7
So where did the other cloth go?
The Sudarium, said to be the cloth wrapped around the head of Jesus Christ after he died, is kept in a Cathedral in Oviedo, Spain. The blood stains match those on the shroud. Also, blood tests done on both the Sudarium and the Shroud confirmed that the blood stains on both cloths were of the same blood type: AB. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudarium_of_Oviedo
Kevin Moon, the optical engineer quoted above also said, “I am amazed that “church people” don’t seem to care about the facts, as if they know all they need to already.” I don’t know whether that’s true. I discussed this with my husband. He had discounted the shroud as a Catholic thing, as they venerate relics. (In this case, it’s just as well they did). I got put off by the results of the carbon 14 test, but my interest in this was awakened by a news article on TV in 2010. If you would like to see the news article, here it is;
So here we have the evidence for our risen King. The proof of His resurrection is left on the grave cloth. We don’t know how the resurrection happened, we do know from the image on the cloth that it involves an unknown particle that travels at a speed greater than the speed of light and defies gravity. Science has done its job explaining the what. Religion must do its job explaining the why.
I am sorry if “church people” haven’t cared enough about the facts, because you deserve to know. May you know the truth, and may the truth set you free. John 8:32
If you want to know about the why, the Bible explains it, and I’ve tried to explain the why in this Blog. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
If you want to know more about the what, Here are some links to the scientist’s research I’ve quoted from:
Petrus P.Q.M. Soons, M.D. – Holographic information is encoded in the shroud in an interference pattern. http://www.ohioshroudconference.com/papers/p24.pdf
Robert Bucklin M.D., J.D, former coroner and Forensic Pathologist for Los Angeles County. (Died 2001) – Autopsy of the injuries shown on the image: “This is the body of a 5’11” Caucasian male, puncture wounds (wrist) and blood flows, swelling over cheek, and on the back, more than 100 lesions which appear to be scourging or rip marks. Abrasian on one knee consistent with a fall. Stake through feet … http://www.shroud.com/bucklin.htm
More research has just come out, which is covered in this blog: http://bryanpattersonfaithworks.wordpress.com/2013/03/29/shroud-of-turin-may-be-real-new-evidence/
