The Thousand Years

For a thousand years the earth will have peace. The shattered earth took a pounding but now it will be rebuilt, repaired, rejuvenated, reinvigorated and renovated.

The clean-up will begin after Armageddon and will continue for seven months. All the people of the land will be involved in cleaning up the bodies of the army of Gog. They’ll gain a special commendation for this work from Jesus on the day He is glorified; Indeed all the people of the land will be burying, and they will gain renown for it on the day that I am glorified,” says the Lord God. Ezekiel 39:12-13

It will come to pass in that day that I will give Gog a burial place there in Israel, the valley of those who pass by east of the sea (the former Dead Sea); and it will obstruct travellers because there they will bury Gog and all his multitude. Therefore they will call it the Valley of Hamon Gog.

At the end of seven months, they will make a search. The search party will pass through the land; and when anyone sees a man’s bone, he shall set up a marker by it, till the buriers have buried it in the Valley of Hamon Gog. The name of the city will also be Hamonah, (meaning multitude.) Thus they shall cleanse the land.” Ezekiel 39:11-16

The weapons will be burned for seven years; “Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out and set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and bucklers, the bows and arrows, the javelins and spears; and they will make fires with them for seven years.

They will not take wood from the field nor cut down any from the forests because they will make fires with the weapons, and they will plunder those who plundered them and pillage those who pillaged them,” says the Lord God. Ezekiel 39:9-10

The clean-up couldn’t have happened before Armageddon because the people would have kept the weapons. Also, there would have been no time for burial during the Tribulation. But now weapons will no longer be needed.

With perfect justice, there’ll be no need for a war to end disputes. Swords will be beaten into ploughshares;

He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” Isaiah 2:4

While the nations are subject to Jesus, they will also receive justice from Him, for God says; “Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, my Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.” Isaiah 42:1

The River of Life

In Jerusalem the blood and filth from the Winepress will be cleansed by a river of sparkling clear water that will flow from the sanctuary on Zion.

And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb.  In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. Revelation 22:1

Jerusalem will be rebuilt on a plain at the base of a very high mountain. The temple will be on the mountain. Water will tumble down the western and eastern slopes of the Mountain of the Lord, casting rainbows on the air as it falls.

Above the mountain of the Lord there will be a covering of cloud by day and fire by night. The cloud will be above every dwelling and place of assembly, a canopy that provides shade from the heat and shelter from the wind and rain.

On the mountain the Tree of Life will be in the middle of the street. Large and bursting with life, it will overhang the street and grow on both sides of the river which will flow from the temple to Jerusalem.

And in that day it shall be that living waters shall flow from Jerusalem, Half of them toward the eastern sea and half of them toward the western sea; In both summer and winter, it shall occur. And the Lord shall be King over all the earth. Zechariah 14:8

Beginning at the Temple compound, the river will flow to Jerusalem and the eastern branch will eventually make its way south to the Dead Sea.

Water will flow from the front of the temple that faces east. Every half a kilometre the water will gradually deepen from ankle-deep to knee-deep. After one kilometre the river will be waist deep and at two kilometres the water will be too deep to wade.

Lush, fruit-laden trees will line the banks. They will bear fruit every month, refreshed by the water flowing from the sanctuary.

The prophet Ezekiel described the river that will flow east to the Dead Sea;

This water flows toward the eastern region, goes down into the valley, and enters the sea. When it reaches the sea, its waters are healed. And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish because these waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes.

It shall be that fishermen will stand by it from En Gedi to En Eglaim; they will be places for spreading their nets. Their fish will be of the same kinds as the fish of the Great Sea, exceedingly many. But its swamps and marshes will not be healed; they will be given over to salt.” Ezekiel 47:8-11

The western branch will flow down the mountain to empty into the Mediterranean.

Wherever the river goes, everything will live. The leaves of the trees will be used by the nations for healing, not that there will be much illness. People will live for hundreds of years, as they did before the flood.

For God promises in Isaiah 65:22, “As the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people.”

The Thousand Years

The LORD promised, “I will return to Zion and dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called ‘The City of Truth, The Mountain of the Lord of hosts, The Holy Mountain.'” Zechariah 8:3

Jesus will live in Zion, the city on the mountain above Jerusalem. Zion can’t be accessed by sinners, only the righteous;

Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.” Revelation 22:14-15

The land on the plain below the mountain will be safely inhabited. No one will have to watch their back or lock their doors; Everyone will sit under their own vine and under their own fig tree, and no one will make them afraid. Micah 4:4

Old men and old women shall again sit in the streets of Jerusalem, Each one with his staff in his hand because of great age. The streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in its streets. Zechariah 8:3-5

It will be a joyous place where children will laugh and play in the streets. As for the creatures, it will be like a large petting zoo where they live blissful lives.

Peace and harmony between man and the creatures will be restored as the prophet Isaiah foretold;

The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, The leopard shall lie down with the young goat, The calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little child shall lead them. Isaiah 11:6

The rule of tooth and claw shall be abolished and the creatures will no longer eat flesh.

Topheth

That’s inside the city. Outside Jerusalem are the bodies from the judgement at Jehoshaphat. They’re left unburied in Topheth, that evil place outside the city where in ancient times children were sacrificed to Baal.

The bodies will be left in an unburied state to serve as a warning. People don’t fear God when Hell is hidden. Jesus knows that people can be ghoulish, and He wants the children of the survivors to fear God so they’ll pass the Great White Throne judgement at the end of the millennium. The morbidly curious will want to go and have a look.

And they shall go forth and look upon the corpses of the men who have transgressed against Me. For their worm does not die, and their fire is not quenched. They shall be an abhorrence to all flesh. Isaiah 66:18-24

Jesus must reign for the 1000 years until He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 1 Corinthians 15:24-28

The Desolate Areas

The renovated world will be replaced at the end of the thousand years, after the war of Gog and Magog, when Jesus hands the kingdom over to God the Father. The old earth will have to be replaced because of the pollution from sin.

Although the world will be returned to the condition it enjoyed in Eden, there will be two desolate areas: Babylon, the former world capital of the Antichrist and Edom, south-east of Israel. These lands will be like Sodom and Gomorrah.

While Satan is locked up in the Abyss this is where his demons will be confined. Here will be dragons, burning pitch and satyrs.

The smoke from these areas will rise and be visible for the entire Millennium.

Babylon shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.

But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there, and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures, and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there. And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged. Isaiah 13:20-22 KJV

As for Edom, God’s judgement will come on southern Jordan because of the way it treated Israel. The land shall become burning hot pitch that burns for the entire thousand years. God will stretch upon it the line of confusion and the stones of emptiness.

And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles, and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be a habitation of dragons, and a court for owls.

The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest. Isaiah 34:8-15 KJV

Egypt, Assyria, and Israel Blessed

As for the surrounding nations, for the first forty years of the Millennium Egypt will be desolate and the Egyptians will be dispersed into various countries. But afterwards Egypt will become a kingdom again. Egypt will be at peace with Israel and they will be called “His people.”

Assyria (now Iraq) will be at peace and will be called “the work of His hands.” These three nations shall be a blessing among the lands of the Middle East:

In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian will come into Egypt and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians will serve with the Assyrians. In that day Israel will be one of three with Egypt and Assyria—a blessing in the midst of the land, whom the Lord of hosts shall bless, saying, “Blessed is Egypt My people, and Assyria the work of My hands, and Israel My inheritance.” Isaiah 19:18-25

The Seventh Feast

The LORD of hosts will prepare a lavish banquet for all peoples on this mountain; A banquet of aged wine, choice pieces with marrow, and refined, aged wine. Isaiah 25:6

Sukkot or the Feast of Tabernacles is the seventh and last feast that the Lord commanded Israel to observe. It marks the Ingathering, the completion of the harvest and the feast begins five days after the Day of Atonement.

Sometimes the Feast of Tabernacles is called ‘the Feast of Ingathering,’ or ‘the Feast to the Lord’ or ‘the Feast of Booths.’

And the Feast of Harvest, the firstfruits of your labours which you have sown in the field; and the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you have gathered in the fruit of your labours from the field. Exodus 23:16

You shall observe the Feast of Tabernacles seven days when you have gathered from your threshing floor and from your winepress. Deuteronomy 16:13

It’s a time of joyous celebration when the Israelites celebrate God’s continued provision for them in the current harvest, and they will remember His provision and protection during their years in the wilderness.

All nations will have to keep this festival by sending representatives to Jerusalem for it, or they will experience drought;

And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.  And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, on them there will be no rain. Zechariah 14:16-19

Christina Perri – Thousand Years (Lyrics Video)

The river

About ten years ago I had a memorable dream.  I was wading into a clear river holding my Bible in one hand and the Kingdom story in the other.  The river got deeper and deeper until I was waist deep.

I’m not sure what it meant, but I know when God wants to tell me something.  Looking in my Bible, I was reminded of the river in Ezekiel which seemed to fit my dream.

Ezekiel 47 describes a river that flows from a future Temple in the Millenial Kingdom that goes from ankle deep, to knee deep, to waist deep, to a river deep enough to swim in.  A real river, a future river, the river of life.  A river where the trees on both banks will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them.  Ezekiel writes, “where the river flows everything will live.”

I have heard revival being compared to a river.  I think it’s great that people want more of God, they want this river.  But be discerning.

NAR (New Apostolic Reformation) author Rick Joiner wrote about a river in ‘Epic Battles of the Last Days,’ saying “This River of Life is coming to His church.  This River is going to overflow all of its present banks.  None of the dikes erected to keep it in place will be able to restrain what is coming,  No stronghold can stand before this River.  You are called to be a part of it, and no evil will stand before you as you flow with Him.”

That’s a bold claim.  His statement is at odds with the Assemblies of God Statement on RevivalThey compare the Holy Spirit to a mighty river, and the Scriptures to the banks of that river. Great harm occurs when the river overruns the banks, but that the river does great good when it stays within the banks.

My advice is come to the river, but test the water.  Is the river flowing within the banks of Scripture?

“Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”  1 John 4:1

Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.” 1 Timothy 4:16
