Revelation 14, The Grape Harvest

Revelation 14:17-20

At the end of the Tribulation the earth is reeling and swathed in darkness. The sun and moon are blotted out and there are no stars. The remnant have seen the sign of the Son of Man on a sky as black as ink. And more people have disappeared.

They disappeared the same way as they did three and a half years ago when the Antichrist took over the temple in Jerusalem. One minute they were there and the next they were gone.

Those seeing the sign of the Son of Man mourn because everything the Bible, the Two Witnesses, the 144,000 evangelists and the three angels said turned out to be true.

It’s the end and they cannot repent. The Mark of the Beast has made them God’s enemies. They worshipped the beast and his technological marvels. They were at one with the beast and inhabited a world where Jesus wasn’t welcome. No-one was safe around them except others like them.

Now it’s their turn to be taken, but it won’t be to Heaven. This is the grape harvest, a harvest of wrath and these are the grapes of wrath.

Then another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. And another angel came out from the altar, who had power over fire, and he cried with a loud cry to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, “Thrust in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth, for her grapes are fully ripe.” Revelation 14:17-18

Again one will be taken and one will be left; I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left. Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left.

And they answered and said to Him, “Where, Lord?”

So He said to them, “Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together.” Luke 17:34-37

The wicked and those who have the Mark of the Beast will be taken to a place just outside the old city of Jerusalem. It’s called “The Winepress.”

The Winepress

So the angel thrust his sickle into the earth and gathered the vine of the earth, and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.  And the winepress was trampled outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress, up to the horses’ bridles, for one thousand six hundred furlongs. Revelation 14:19-20

Jesus will do the trampling. But first He will take his rest while the angels do the harvesting; ‘For so the Lord said to me, “I will take My rest, and I will look from My dwelling place like clear heat in sunshine, Like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.’

For before the harvest, when the bud is perfect and the sour grape is ripening in the flower,
He will both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks and take away and cut down the branches.
They will be left together for the mountain birds of prey and for the beasts of the earth;
The birds of prey will summer on them, And all the beasts of the earth will winter on them.

Isaiah 18:3-6

The blood will run at a depth of five feet for 200 miles and it’s going to go all the way down to the Red Sea; “The earth shakes at the noise of their fall; At the cry its noise is heard at the Red Sea.” Jeremiah 49:21

The Avenger of Blood

The Winepress is something Jesus will do alone.

The prophet Isaiah asked: “Why is Your apparel red, and Your garments like one who treads in the winepress?”

The LORD said, “I have trodden the winepress alone, and from the peoples, no one was with Me. For I have trodden them in My anger, and trampled them in My fury; Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments, And I have stained all My robes.

For the day of vengeance is in My heart, and the year of My redeemed has come. I looked, but there was no one to help, and I wondered that there was no one to uphold; Therefore My own arm brought salvation for Me; And My own fury, it sustained Me. I have trodden down the peoples in My anger, made them drunk in My fury, and brought down their strength to the earth.” Isaiah 63:1-6

Reaping the Whirlwind

The wheat has gone and all that’s left are tares. The tares looked like wheat, they bowed to the wind but they had no goodness in them.

Have you ever heard the phrase about reaping the whirlwind? It’s in connection with the tares; They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no head; it will produce no flour. Hosea 8:7

The wheat and the tares were allowed to grow together until the harvest; “Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.” Matthew 13:30

The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 13:47-50.

The slain of the Lord shall be from one end of the earth to the other. The prophet Jeremiah wrote about the disaster that shall go forth from nation to nation – starting from the farthest parts of the earth where a great whirlwind will be raised up;

The Lord will roar from on high, and utter His voice from His holy habitation; He will roar mightily against His fold. He will give a shout, as those who tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.

A noise will come to the ends of the earth—for the Lord has a controversy with the nations; He will plead His case with all flesh. He will give those who are wicked to the sword,’ says the Lord.

Thus says the Lord of hosts: Behold, disaster shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the farthest parts of the earth. And on that day the slain of the Lord shall be from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth. They shall not be lamented, or gathered, or buried; they shall become refuse on the ground. Jeremiah 25:31-33

Notes

The river of blood: The distance of one thousand six hundred furlongs or 1600 stadia is 200 miles, or 322 kilometres and a horse of sixteen hands is about five feet tall.

Revelation 1:1, What does 8,88,888, and 8888 Signify?

Revelation 1

Revelation is the testimony of Jesus Christ (Rev 1:2) and the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. (Rev 19:10)

There’s a blessing for those who read, hear and keep the words of the prophecy. You can’t just read the book, you have to hear and keep the words. Who better to explain it than the author? He has the Spirit of the Lord, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. Isaiah 11:2

The first verse of Revelation begins with Jesus and God. God wants to show His servants things that must happen at the time of the end and he gave the Revelation to Jesus, to give to John through an angel.

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, Revelation 1:1

Did you notice that Jesus not only sent it, he signified it? How does one signify something? In years past, a letter would be sealed with hot wax and the seal imprinted with the person’s signet ring.

There’s an example of this in the Book of Esther, chapter 8 verse 8. Note the eights.

You yourselves write a decree concerning the Jews, as you please, in the king’s name, and seal it with the king’s signet ring; for whatever is written in the king’s name and sealed with the king’s signet ring no one can revoke.” Esther 8:8

8

The Bible does have some significant numbers. Six is the number of man and seven is the number of God. We always hear about 666 when it comes to the Book of Revelation, but never 888. The number eight is Jesus’ number.

In Greek, the name of Jesus is spelled I H S O U S. Each Greek letter has a numerical value and so if we then take each letter in Jesus’ name and add them up, the total comes to 888.

I H S O U S (Jesus) = 10 + 8 + 200 + 70 + 400 + 200 = 888.

8 is the same, up or down.

Sideways it’s the symbol of infinity, represented by an 8 laid down.

Eight is the number of resurrection and the resurrection is the eighth ‘great sign’ recorded in John’s Gospel.

God has left us with some signs to see. Here is a cosmic wonder from heaven; the Infinity Symbol discovered at the heart of the Milky Way in 2011, and a thing of beauty from the earth – a butterfly called “Anna’s 88.” Butterflies are used as a symbol of new life and the resurrection.

Jesus is referred to as the ‘Son of Man’ 88 times in the New Testament.

The Book of Revelation has Jesus’ number stamped on it. There are 22 chapters of 404 verses, and the product of 22 multiplied by 404 equals 8888.

Signed, sealed, signified and delivered – that’s his book.

We’re not used to seeing Jesus as a king, but we will be soon.

Judah’s signet and cord

Judah and Tamar were ancestors of Jesus Christ. The royal line began with Judah;

The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.
Genesis 49:10

In Genesis 38 Judah gave Tamar his signet and cord, and staff as a pledge before he lay with her. When confronted she produced them asking, “Please determine whose these are—the signet and cord, and staff,” Genesis 38:25. It was an awkward question for Judah but not for God. Whose signet was it? The message is there in a hidden equidistant letter sequence which spells out “God encoded, God is truth.”

Jesus as King

Jesus is the Greek version of the Hebrew name Joshua. The meaning of the name Jesus is ‘Yah Will Save, Yah Saves.’ Salvation is to be found under no other name.

Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

God said through the prophet Isaiah;

“Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.
 By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked:
Before me every knee will bow; by me every tongue will swear.
Isaiah 45:22-23

Every knee will bow before Jesus.

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,  that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,  and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The name Jesus: Summary

Anna’s 88

Is the butterfly with 88 on it’s wings a sign, or a coincidence?

Jesus brought to the temple after his eighth day and greeted by a prophetess named Anna, a widow in her 80’s.

Luke 2:21 And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.

Luke 2:21-24 Now when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord (as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”), and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.”

Luke 2:36-38 Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity;  and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.  And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

The LORD’s signet ring

Ancient kings used signet rings to designate authority, honor, or ownership. A signet contained an emblem unique to the king. Official documents were sealed with a dollop of soft wax impressed with the king’s signet, usually kept on a ring on his finger. Such a seal certified the document as genuine, much like a notary public’s stamp today. In 1 Kings 21:8, the evil Queen Jezebel took King Ahab’s signet ring and “wrote letters in Ahab’s name and sealed them with his seal.” The ring’s stamp gave her letters the king’s authority. In Daniel 6:17, a signet ring was used to seal a stone covering a lions’ den: “A stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet and with the signet of his lords, that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.” A royal signet ring is also featured in Genesis 41:41-43 and Esther 8:8.

Got Questions: What does it mean that Zerubbabel was the LORD’s signet ring (Haggai 2:23)?

Through the Word: Tamar

Genesis 38

The story of Joseph is interrupted by Judah and Tamar.

Have you heard the saying, “you can choose your friends but you can’t choose your relatives?”

God can, and he was watching the family line of Judah, the fourth son of Jacob and Leah, closely. This family line was going to be in the genealogy of Jesus through Judah, see Matthew 1.

But Judah mixed with the Canaanites and married Shua, a Canaanite woman. They had three sons, Er, Onan and Shelah.

Judah found a wife for Er called Tamar. Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord killed him.

There was a custom, later codified into Levitical law, where the brother marries the widow so the family line is continued and the property stays in the family. So Onan married Tamar.

But Onan knew that the heir would not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in to his brother’s wife, that he emitted on the ground, lest he should give an heir to his brother.  And the thing which he did displeased the Lord; therefore He killed him also.” Genesis 38:9-10

So goodbye Er and Onan. Judah told Tamar to remain a widow in her father’s house till his son Shelah was grown – but Judah had no intention of marrying them off; “Lest he also die like his brothers” he thought. He’s obviously blaming Tamar for the deaths, not God.

Tamar went and dwelt in her father’s house while Judah ‘forgot’ about her. The years passed and she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given to him as a wife. So she took matters into her own hands.

Finding out Judah was going to Timnah to shear his sheep, Tamar took off her widow’s garments, covered herself with a veil and and sat by the road to Timnah. She must have known Judah well enough to know how he’d react.

When Judah saw her, he thought she was a harlot, because she had covered her face. So Judah hired Tamar as a prostitute. They negotiated payment;

 And he said, “I will send a young goat from the flock.”

So she said, “Will you give me a pledge till you send it?”

Then he said, “What pledge shall I give you?”

So she said, “Your signet and cord, and your staff that is in your hand.”

Tamar conceived and went back to her home and her widow’s clothes. Judah turned up with the goat but couldn’t find her.

About three months later, Judah was told Tamar was pregnant.

So Judah said, “Bring her out and let her be burned!”

He wanted her killed because she’d committed adultery against Shelah!

When she was brought out, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, “By the man to whom these belong, I am with child.” And she said, “Please determine whose these are—the signet and cord, and staff.”

So Judah acknowledged them and said, “She has been more righteous than I, because I did not give her to Shelah my son.” And he never knew her again.

Perez

Tamar gave birth to twin boys, Perez and Zerah. Zerah put his hand out first and the midwife took a scarlet thread and bound it on his hand. But Zerah withdrew his hand and Perez was born first.

Perez is in the genealogy of Jesus;  Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar. Matthew 1:2-3

Normally the mothers aren’t mentioned in the genealogy, but Tamar is, along with Rahab a Canaanite, and Ruth a Moabite.

The Book of Ruth has this strange blessing;  where the the elders and all the people at the gate of Bethlehem Ephrathah said, “Through the offspring the Lord gives you by this young woman, may your family be like that of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah.”

Why did Tamar get this special honour? Is it because she refused to be forgotten, and she held Judah accountable? Who knows, but God honours vows.

Perez became the ancestral leader of the Perezite clan (Genesis 46:12; Numbers 26:20). The family was well respected and when the Israelites returned from captivity in Babylon, 468 Perezites were chosen to live in Jerusalem (1 Chronicles 9:4; Nehemiah 11:4, 6). The Bible says they were “all outstanding men.” Source: Got Questions

Five generations of the family tree of the Messiah are hidden within the text of Genesis 38. The names Boaz, Ruth, Obed, Jesse, and David are placed in chronological order at 49-letter intervals.

Discern, I pray thee, whose sign this is?

The Bible codes or Torah codes are hidden texts within the Hebrew texts, discovered by Israel mathmetician Eliyahu Rips in the 1990s. Hebrew characters have a numerical value and it was with these and computers that messages were discovered using equidistant letter sequences. It’s like a watermark or stamp of authenticity. The codes are not needed as the plain meaning speaks for itself, but the codes are real, they’re interesting and they prove the Bible is the inspired word of God.

Here we have the text from Genesis 38:25, “Discern, I pray thee, whose sign this is.”

The hidden text spells out, “God encoded, God is truth.

Veiled Faces

It’s interesting that in Canaanite practise it was harlots who covered their faces. Don’t the Mohammedans know that? They’re all descended from Abraham.

The fading flower …

Shortly after my last post where I asked “Who wants to live forever?” my mother passed away.  For most of her life she grappled with the highs and lows of bipolar disease.  She’s free of her demons at last.

My memories of her when she was bipolar aren’t good, but in between times she had a happy, sunny nature.  And that’s how I want to remember her.

I’ve made a youtube video of the powerpoint I prepared for the funeral, showing scenes from her life, which I and my family feature in.

It’s here if you want to see it.  The music is “Who am I?” by Casting Crowns.

It brings to mind the scripture that God has compassion on us mortals – who are here today and gone tomorrow, just like the grass and flowers.  That’s why Jesus wept at the grief of Lazarus’s sisters.

As a father has compassion on his children
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
for he knows how we are formed,
he remembers that we are dust.
The life of mortals is like grass,
they flourish like a flower of the field;
the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.
But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him,
and his righteousness with their children’s children—with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts.
The Lord has established his throne in heaven,
and his kingdom rules over all.”

Psalm 103:13-19

I wasn’t sure of how things were with my mother and God.  He gave me a story to tell her on the last occasion she had a serious heart attack, which I wrote here.

superscript_seven_u2077_icon_256x256God gave us a sign that she’d gone to be with him.  Seven is the number of rest, and she’d entered his rest, dying at 7pm on the 7th day of the 7th month, aged 77.

He explains about that rest in Hebrews 4;

There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest.

Hebrews 4:9

I recommend reading the whole passage from Hebrews 4:1-11.

Hebrews 4:1-10 The Promise of Rest

So now I know what can go on my mother’s headstone; “At rest.”  Two simple words that say so much.
