Zodiac signs, their context in the Kingdom of God

Sometimes God gives us signs.  In a chapter of my story “The Kingdom” I was given the sign of Aquarius – the water bearer, after learning about “living water.”  Aquarius, I hear you say?  Doesn’t that belong to astrology?

It got me into trouble with my mentor, who  believes the signs are best left to the zodiac, and astrologers.  I don’t.  Why should they?  One of the ways God speaks is by using signs in the heavens.

The signs belonged to an earlier system called the Mazzaroth, which is the Hebrew word for ‘constellation,’ and the word ‘Zodiac’ comes from a Greek word ‘zoad,’ meaning “path, way, circle or circuit.”

Putting Astrology in it’s correct context – Astrology is made up of these two words: Astro meaning “Star” and Logos meaning Jesus Christ, the Word, the Logos of God.

Many of the constellations have names that are very old.

The Mazzaroth is mentioned in Job, the earliest book of the Bible.
Can you bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or can you guide *Arcturus with his sons?  Job 38:32

*Arcturus (also known as the Bear
and its cubs) is a bright star in
the constellation of Bootes,
in the sign of Virgo.

Here is my biblical position on the zodiac – from the first chapter of Genesis we read that the constellations are to serve as signs;

they are lights in the vault of the sky, that serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years.”  Genesis 1:14.

In that context they can serve as signs, to mark a time and place in prophecy – like the star the Magi saw at Christ’s birth.

You can’t make predictions using the stars.  The Lord says He makes fools of fortune-tellers, and frustrates the predictions of astrologers.

Here are His words;

“I am the Lord, your savior;
I am the one who created you.
I am the Lord, the Creator of all things.
I alone stretched out the heavens;
when I made the earth, no one helped me.
I make fools of fortune-tellers
and frustrate the predictions of astrologers.
The words of the wise I refute
and show that their wisdom is foolishness.
But when my servant makes a prediction,
when I send a messenger to reveal my plans,The Witness of the Stars
I make those plans and predictions come true.”  Isaiah 44:24-26

If you would like to learn more about how the constellations fit with the Bible, I recommend a book called “Witness of the Stars” by EW Bullinger.

I have also organised my posts that touch on the Mazzaroth under the heading “Signs from the Mazzaroth” on the menu.

Immanuel, God with us

 This Christmas I am going to write about the King.  In order to do him justice I went into the Kingdom, my way of meditating where I read the Bible and weave together signs.  Let me tell you a story ….

Immanuel © Joanne Rolston

Looking at Seth and his children, Adam taught them the history of the world and explained the prophecies of things yet to come, knowing it would have to be transmitted orally in order to survive the coming deluge and ice age.

The facts were in the form of a story, with no scientific explanation or context.  It was the simple truth.

As for He who was to come, the stars would confirm the prophecy.

On this particular night the stars filled the sky with their brilliance.

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the skies proclaim his handiwork. Day after day they utter speech, and night after night they show knowledge. They have no speech or language, no sound is heard from them. Yet their sound has gone out through all the earth, and their utterances to the end of the earth. Psalms 19:1-4

“What happened after you ate from the tree of knowledge?”  asked Enoch, a child of the seventh generation.

Weeping, Adam replied; “Our Father looked at us with great grief.  After fashioning us  in his own image we’d lost our glory.  Naked and ashamed, we cowered before him.  Without our covering of light we looked just like animals, like creatures of clay.  I saw the shining innocence in Eve’s eyes give way to self-awareness and sadness.”

“Were you as Gods?” Seth asked.

“No.  We had knowledge, but no power to save ourselves.  The serpent took the whole world.”

Adam’s eyes darkened as he remembered the curse, “My father cursed the form that Lucifer the Archangel had taken, and promised that we would be his enemies – his offspring and ours, the seed of the woman.  Promising a deliverer who would take the fallen world back from him, he said to the serpent “He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)

Tracing out patterns and explaining the meaning of the constellations, Adam taught the word of God, using the names of the stars.

Pointing to the constellation of Scorpio, where the brightest star Antares, the wounding, shone ominously with a deep red light, Adam said “there the gigantic scorpion is trying to sting in the heel a mighty man, who is struggling with a serpent.  The serpent is crushed by the man, who has his foot placed right on the scorpion’s heart.”

“Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder;
The young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under foot.”

Psalm 91:13

Explaining about the One who would come, who would be born of a virgin, Adam said “Now look up there, children, at Virgo.  Virgo means “the seed of the woman.”  She has a branch in her right hand, representing the one who will be brought forth, and some ears of corn in her left hand, representing seed.”

“Behold, the days come, says the LORD, That I will raise unto David a righteous BRANCH (a Son), And a KING shall reign and prosper.Jeremiah 23:5

There in Virgo is Centaurus, the “despised”, and Bootes who is “to come,” and Coma “the desired”.

A new star will appear in this sign when He of whom it is foretold will be born.  He will be the desire of all nations, to be despised and rejected by men, giving his life as an offering that we may live.  He is the coming one who will rule and govern the earth.

Ages will pass, and kingdoms will come and go.  After the meaning of the twelve signs is lost, a nation of twelve tribes will arise, and a bloodline will be chosen.  They will prophecy and preserve the truth about him in their scrolls, and He will be born.”

“What sign will be given when he comes?” they asked.

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.  Isaiah 7:14
